Zinke Reacts to Washington, D.C., EPA Decision on CFAC

(CONGRESS) September 7, 2016 – Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced they are placing the Glencore-owned Anaconda Aluminum Co. Columbia Falls Reduction Plant in Columbia Falls on the National Priorities List (NPL) as a Superfund site despite ample local opposition to the proposed listing. Zinke’s office was told by local EPA agents that the decision was made without any warning or input.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last week, Congressman Ryan Zinke led fourteen of his House colleagues to strongly urge the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to increase opportunities for local input in critical land management decisions. In a letter to BLM Director Neil Kornze, Members emphasized how problematic Washington, DC’s “one-size-fits-all” approach has been on states with expansive federal land reserves. The agency has consistently removed control and consideration from local communities, thereby failing to manage its assets effectively.
