Zinke Statements on Foreign Aid Votes

April 20, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Ryan Zinke voted on separate supplemental funding requests for foreign aid, including H.R. 8034, H.R. 8035, H.R. 8036 and H.R. 8038, to address national security issues in Israel, Ukraine, and the Pacific. Zinke released the following statements regarding his votes.

H.R. 8034, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act – Zinke vote: No

“I’ve been to a lot of battles in my life, and I’ve never seen the President of the United States send aid to the enemy while allied troops are under fire. This bill included more than $9 billion for Biden’s USAID to send money to Gaza, and thereby sending it directly to the front lines of Hamas. No aid for Gaza until an unconditional surrender and release of hostages.”

H.R. 8035, the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act – Zinke vote: No

“Congress and Biden have sent billions and billions of taxpayer dollars to fund a war in Ukraine, and for what? I’ve asked everyone in a position of power in the Biden administration, and I can think of what the plan is in Ukraine, and nobody seems to know. I’m a believer in fighting for freedom and supporting our allies, but I am not a supporter of a blank check on the taxpayer’s dime. I can’t justify sending a blank check to Ukraine, especially when our own borders are being invaded every day, our police and schools are under financial stress, and Montanans can’t afford gas and groceries due to inflation.”

H.R. 8036, the Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act – Zinke vote: Yes

“China is not our friend. They are a competitor at best, enemy at worst and I would say right now they are clearly our adversary. With weak leadership in the White House, they see the opportunity so many of our adversaries are capitalizing on. The United States territories and compact states extend deep into the Pacific and are on the front lines of a conflict with China. The U.S. cannot afford to cede territory in the Pacific because the next stop is right here on mainland soil.”

H.R. 8038, the 21st Century Peace through Strength Act – Zinke vote: Yes

Under Reagan and Trump, we had peace through strength. Under Biden we have war through weakness. We’re seeing a new axis of evil between Russia, China and Iran and the United States absolutely needs to be ahead of the game and stop President Biden bowing to war criminals, dictators and terrorist regimes.”
