Congressman Zinke Receives Appropriations Subcommittee Assignments

January 30, 2023

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Today, Western Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke announced his subcommittee assignments on the House Appropriations Committee. Congressman Zinke will serve on the Military Construction, Veteran Affairs and Related Agencies, Interior, Environment and Related Agencies, and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies subcommittees.

“These subcommittees are exactly the right fit to address some of the biggest challenges we face across Western Montana - primarily the housing squeeze, infrastructure, public lands access and use, and care for our veterans, ” said Rep. Zinke. “I look forward to working with stakeholders from across the district to make sure Montana priorities and projects are represented.”

Interior, Environment and Related Agencies

The subcommittee has funding and oversight jurisdiction over issues related to the U.S. Department of the Interior, Environmental Protection Agency, The U.S. Forest Service, Indian Health Service, Smithsonian institutions and other national museums and history preserves. The subcommittee is responsible for allocating funding to important government programs and activities such as forest management, wildfire fighting, national parks, and energy development. Similarly, the committee can use its powers to check harmful regulations and rules such as Water of the U.S.

Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies

The subcommittee has oversight jurisdiction and oversees funding for construction and alignment of military installations and the Department of Veterans Affairs, making it a key committee for ensuring Malmstrom Air Force Base and National Guard and Reserve facilities, as well as VA facilities and programs are properly funded.

Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies

The subcommittee has oversight and funding jurisdiction over the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Transportation, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, transportation safety boards, and other agencies. All of which provides Montanans relief from the housing squeeze in western Montana and updated roads, bridges and railways to help Montanans get themselves, crops, materials and supplies where they need to go expeditiously and safely.
