(The Center Square) – Alarmed by a dramatic increase in fentanyl-related deaths among adolescents, a bipartisan congressional group led by U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., has introduced legislation that would provide funding for opioid-overdose reversal medication and training for school personnel in rural areas and districts with high crime rates.
I believe the Congressman genuinely cares about Montana’s veterans
BY TOM NUGENT
I pen this heartfelt message to express my profound gratitude to Congressman Ryan Zinke for his unwavering support for my family in a time of crisis. The Veterans Affairs healthcare system that my family has used for decades faltered in our moment of need. The VA left us in a state of limbo, denying us the proper medical care my family urgently required due to negligence.
Montana faces a mental health epidemic. All our families have been touched by this crisis in one way or another. Tragically, many of Montana’s mentally unwell end up in prison or end their own lives rather than get the help they need and deserve. In fact, our suicide rate is second in the nation.
I write this letter to thank Congressman Ryan Zinke in his efforts to help local law enforcement in the continued fight against fentanyl and other dangerous narcotics flooding our communities.
He recently came to Mineral County to meet with my team and I directly to see what we deal with on the front lines in the war on drugs.
Congressman Zinke also has taken a great interest in in our community mental health crisis and is working hard to help develop solutions to tackle this issue that are both compassionate and effective.
